Our Mission
The Mission of the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Oklahoma is to give full effect to the Sixth Amendment by providing zealous and effective representation to every client. Through client-centered advocacy, we defend the fundamental human dignity and equality before the law of each person we represent.
Pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act of 1964 (CJA), 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, the Federal Public Defender provides legal services to people accused of federal criminal law violations in the Western District of Oklahoma.
Pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 3599, our Capital Habeas Unit represents people in all three Oklahoma federal districts who were convicted in Oklahoma and sentenced to death by the state courts. Before we can assist anyone with legal advice and services, we must be appointed by a federal judge.
Our Vision
To defend and protect the rights of each of our clients while maintaining the highest levels of ethics, civility, and professionalism both inside and outside the courtroom. To seek justice through understanding, mercy, and compassion for all people while holding the power of the government to its limited rule. To create a culture that attracts dedicated and talented teams who value each other with the same passion as they defend those persons we represent.
Core Values
- Service to the client.
- Courage before the Court.
- Integrity with our peers.
- Compassion for each other.
- Respect through diversity and inclusion.
